You might wonder about the components of the solar panels while looking at those thin sheets placed on the rooftop of your home, or might be anywhere else. The solar panel system is composed of many components. One of them is the solar panel. The solar panels comprise solar cells, about which you will get to know in the blog here –
Different Types Of Solar System
Solar cells are electric devices responsible for converting sunlight into an electric form, which is later converted and then used for residential or commercial energy requirements. Mainly, there are three types of solar cells –
- Crystalline silicon solar cells
- Thin-film solar cells
- Third-generation solar cells
The crystalline silicon solar cells are the most popular types to be used for the making of solar panels. Further, the types for these divisions of solar panels subdivide into mon crystalline and polycrystalline cell forms. The monocrystalline solar cells hold a distinctive appearance by nature and are cut into shape to form their solar panel. Whereas polycrystalline does not need to be cut to form a shape. Instead, it is melted and poured into the square moulds to form the shape.
New emerging solar cell technologies -
Thin films solar cells are the ones which are very slim types of solar panels. These slim photovoltaic solar cells are made from amorphous silicon. The crystalline structure of atoms is ordered whereas the amorphous silicon structure has its atoms randomly arranged. The thin-film solar cells are made by creating modules by layering the photovoltaics. These cells are so thin that they can be laminated onto windows, glass, metals, and even polymers.
While third-generation solar cells are a hybrid of crystalline silicon solar cells and thin-film solar cells. The formation of these solar cells combines the best features of the first two types of solar cells to increase their practicality and efficiency. Cells created using this technology are cheaper than the other types of solar cells.
With the solar industry emerging bright with more and more discoveries, there are new inventions in the development of solar cell technologies as well. The new idea of solar technology is that light can be preceded by the interaction of light on many other materials as well. For example, there are perovskite solar cells which are produced from the organic compounds of lead and other elements.
Organic solar cells are on the verge of getting discovered. This will contain different layers of polymers and can be produced at a very cheaper rate. Apart from these, there are dye-sensitized solar cells as well, which use the semiconducting titanium dioxide and a sensitizer dye layer, which is thick as only one molecule. There could be some pros and drawbacks with each solar technology invention, but based on the results and the capability to use them, these emerging solar cell technologies will soon hit new headlines in the solar world.
